Three Reasons Why You Aren't Signing Clients
If you know me by now you’ll KNOW that I'm a big believer in business being simple.
I mean my podcast is called The Things We DIDN'T do for a reason loves!
I've DONE the complicated strategy and funnel thing to my business in the past and frankly it just didn't work.
Our brains love to overcomplicate things #Facts.
That's why today I want to share with you three simple things that you can focus on to sign clients and achieve your monthly income goals to help give your brain PROOF that you can make more money by doing LESS.
Three years ago, I had a nutrition business and was teaching yoga on the side. Whilst I was doing ok; I was signing clients and making money, but I felt stuck. Growing my business felt hard, and I was feeling SO far from the big goals I wanted to achieve.
Fast forward to today, I'm hitting $71k months, my business has grown rapidly, our profits have DOUBLED in the last year and it's allowed my husband and I to invest in multiple properties and even support his new business.
So how the heck did I get here?
The short story is I kept going..
The longer story is that I’ve realised there were three BIG things I’ve done to achieve success that to be honest, most people aren’t doing.
I know that if you commit to truly getting honest with yourself and you actually look at how you may not be applying these strategies to your business (and you make a plan to do it quick-smart) you WILL create more income and impact in your business.
It’s just a fact.
So let’s get to it shall we?
1. You’re not prioritising relationship building
Loves, I'm talking about genuine, real relationships. Cultivating sincere relationships is how you sign on the RIGHT clients, not just one time, but repeatedly. It's how you build a sustainable business and scale without having to reinvent the wheel each time you want to make mo’ money.
Relationship building is not just "Yes girl!" comments on Instagram, but a thoughtful strategy that makes sense for you, your industry, and your strengths and is appropriate for the stage of business you're in.
When you're quick to lead with your "goodies" and go from 0 – 100, then you're missing the point of marketing and, probably, the point of what you're trying to achieve in your business. Imagine walking into a room and sharing intimate details of your life with people you don't know. It wouldn't be appropriate for the audience! That's what happens when you are quick to sell to your audience without first building a genuine relationship.
If you don't have a strategy to build relationships, that is your biggest problem. If you have a marketing or sales strategy and that isn't helping people get to know, trust, and like you, you are missing the point, and that's why the messages you're sending and other actions you're taking aren't working. If you have a marketing plan that's not creating connection and trust or showing who you are and why you're of value, that's why no one is reaching out to you.
I'm not saying this to shame you; I'm saying this so you can look at these strategies from the angle of your audience.
Relationship building must be prioritised to succeed in and scale in your business. AND you must have a solid strategy that you can rinse and repeat to bring in consistent epic clients.
2. You’re overcomplicating your strategy
Think about this for a second; what is your strategy that leads your audience from just randomly seeing your face to becoming a loyal, grateful, paying customers?
If it took you more than 30 seconds to come up with your answer, love you're overcomplicating it, and that's why you're not signing clients. #sorrynotsorry
As I've added team members, my strategy has evolved BUT it's the exact same base that I've had since I started - and it works even better now. I don't see many people in this industry who are willing to pick a simple strategy and work with it until it runs like clockwork. From there, you can build on it, add team members, and layer it with other ways to stack your income.
If you don't know your strategy, that's great because you know that's where you need to start! If you have a strategy, but you're not signing clients consistently, it's because there is an area within your strategy that you need to focus on and make even better. Then, keep working on it and executing it until it runs like clockwork.
So often, it seems like people think strategy must be overly complicated to work. I find the exact opposite to be true. Several of my clients have come to me feeling like their strategies are too complex or just out of alignment with themselves, their industry, and their gifts.
A strategy is simply your plan of action to help you reach your desired goal. And most importantly, your sales, marketing, content, and all other strategies need to be based around how you like to show up and what leverages your strengths (and something you actually ENJOY!)
A strategy is a massive part of your business, and it's something you need to be crystal clear on in order to build and scale. If you feel like one of your strategies isn't working, it’s imperative you take a closer look at it (from a neutral place and with ACTUAL DATA). Otherwise you’re going to be spinning your wheels trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together and you’re basically throwing the ol’ spaghetti at a wall and just crossing your fingers that something sticks! Not sure HOW to do that? Holla at your girl here and we can chat.
3. You’re not prioritising sales
Let’s get clear on something first:
There are MANY different ‘ways’ of selling and kinds of sales:
There are direct sales, like a call to action at the end of your posts or asking a client to reach out to you at the end of a video. But what most people don’t address are the in-direct sales activities:
Like showing up authentically in your content online, sharing client testimonials and experiences, or sharing your business framework and values.
Remember you are always selling.
And if you're not constantly thinking about how each action you take leads to your end goal, how it positions you as an expert or shows why you're the best to help these people, then you're missing a huge part of what's going to allow you actually to make sales in business.
Loves, converting people to an opt-in is a sales activity. Moving people through your client pathway is a sales activity. Getting people into your group is a sales activity.
All of these are sales activities because they're moving people from not knowing who you are, to getting them to like, know, and trust you.
I want you to ask yourself, "How am I prioritising sales? Is it something I'm doing daily?" If you're not actively doing sales activities every day, that is why you're not signing clients. A lot of times, this comes from not having a sales strategy and if that’s you, that’s OK and the good news is now you know what to focus on!
You don't have to be overtly pushing direct sales daily, but you do need to be conscious and aware of how you're ACTIVELY guiding your audience along your client pathway if you want to make MORE sales.
Bonus: You know the info, but you're not on board mentally
One last thing…
I would hate for you to think it's all about the strategy – because it's not. So often, I see people who know the strategy, but they aren't implementing it. It's also about getting your mind on board with the changes you're making so you can apply them in a way that leverages your strengths, is in alignment with your business, and makes sense for you. As you examine your business and your strategies, remain curious about what stories are showing up in your mind. THIS is why I preach mindset all day erryday. Unless your brain is 100% behind what you’re doing, you’ll struggle to see the results.. But once you get your mind on board, you’ll blow your own damn mind with how FAST you see success.
Treat these things like they are the essential things in your business, and they will return you tenfold, not only in revenue but in the level of EASE you get to draw in the income and the level of happy tears you’ll get to cry on the daily knowing that you’re truly doing the work you’re here to do.
And if you’re not exactly sure HOW to apply these strategies to your business and you’re ready to take your results, impact and income to the next level, then love, we should chat.
